I was recently asked by a young CEO for advice on who his next hire should be. He was thinking in terms of hiring an operations manager, engineering manager, etc. I told him that one of the biggest changes I would make if I could go back in time was to think less about the role of my first hire and more about hiring around my own weaknesses. It is not that the roles don't matter, but we normally vastly underestimate the impacts that the holes in our skill sets have on our success. I wish I had the self awareness when I was younger that I do now (as do all who I worked with), but I enjoy helping you entrepreneurs learn from my mistakes.
